Why it’s only Damon Albarn’s other, other, other side project with Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers is all.
According to Pitchfork:
Damon Albarn, Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Fela Kuti/the Good, the Bad, & the Queen drummer Tony Allen have a new group, Rocket Juice and the Moon. This weekend, the group debuted material at a series of live events in Europe called “Another Honest Jon’s Chop Up”, which is a spin-off of Albarn’s Honest Jon’s record label. Other performers at the Chop Up included Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Theo Parrish, and the Malian musician Fatoumata Diawara.
Besides having a terrible name, the band have put up a series of songs on Youtube for sampling. To be honest, they’re not as bombastic as you might have been expecting from a band with THAT name.
Sample live cut “Poison” is pretty jamming and ambient with sparse, flighty vocals and buried instrumentation. It’s decent stuff to be sure. I’m actually awaiting more cuts from this project and that’s definitely something I never thought I’d be saying about a band called Rocket Juice And The Moon.
