Since the show relaunched in the fall on the PEAK and WDHA i’ve been itching to do an anything anything live show, i’ve thought long and hard on what and where it should be, would it be two shows, one in Westchester and one in Morristown? or something in the city? would it be all unsigned unknown bands like the first anything anything live show? or would it be a combination of some of the great bands who i’ve done shows with or been a part of, dramrama, girl in a coma, steel train, jesse malin, foxboro, alejandro, joan etc etc? Maybe later for those…
I finally came up with it. It’s going to bridge the two cities that serve as my foundation of rock and roll, NYC and Asbury Park. It’s going to bridge some of the most influential members of the NYC Punk scene of the 70’s with an up and coming band that would have fit right in at CBGB’s and one that i expect huge things from. By the way the band that’s some of the most influential members of the NYC punk scene are making their world debut at this show, and expect a lot of big things from them this year as well.
and it’s for a charity.
Here’s the press release, tickets on sale noon friday december 23 via ticketweb
Anything Anything and LIGHT OF DAY proudly present on Friday January 13th at Asbury Lanes in Asbury Park NJ, the world debut of MANITOBA!
Punk-rock supergroup Manitoba will make their debut on Friday, January 13th at Asbury Lanes as part of the Light of Day Foundation’s four-day weekend of events in Asbury Park to raise money for the fight against Parkinson’s disease.
The show will be hosted by disc jockey Rich Russo (www.richrusso.net), whose free-form radio show, “Anything Anything,” can be heard on Sunday nights in northern New Jersey on 105.5 WDHA-FM and in Westchester County on 107.1 The Peak FM. Asbury Lanes (www.asburylanes.com) is located at 209 Fourth Avenue in Asbury Park.
Manitoba features members of legendary New York punk-rock bands The Dictators and Manitoba’s Wild Kingdom, including Handsome Dick Manitoba, Ross the Boss, Thunderbolt Patterson, Daniel Rey and Dean Rispler.
“These guys are some of the founding fathers and pillars of the legendary New York City punk scene,” said Russo, who noted that the Asbury Lanes concert will be the first show he’s hosted since “Anything Anything” was relaunched on The Peak and WDHA. “This will be an amazing band not to be missed.”
Russo has co-hosted Light of Day’s shows at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park for the past two years, along with Vinnie “Big Pussy” Pastore. This will be the first “Anything Anything” live show Russo has put together since the relaunch of his free form radio show in September.
Handsome Dick Manitoba said band members are excited to be making their debut as part of the 12th annual Light of Day concert series in Asbury Park.
The concert series, now expanded to 16 different events over four days, raises money for the fight against Parkinson’s and other neuromuscular diseases. The Light of Day Foundation, which also hosts shows in Pittsburgh, New York City, Canada, and in Europe, has raised more than $1.5 million over the past 11 years.
“Ross the Boss, Handsome Dick Manitoba, Thunderbolt Patterson, Daniel Rey and Dean “The Dream” Rispler have been bursting at the seams to play some live rock and roll,” Manitoba said. “What better way to get the ball rolling than the wonderful Light of Day benefit in Asbury Park!”
