I’ve never posted someone else’s playlist before but i will do so of Rodney on the ROQ’s final one. I remember getting tapes of Rodney’s shows from friends in LA and of course buying his compilations. He was the first to play so many bands that have had huge impact on my life, and even was the first to play Dramarama’s “Anything Anything” which became the title and theme song to my own radio show. I was asked once in an interview about my show early on and how best to describe it by more than just saying it’s Free Form and the title says it all, and i said this:
“there’s a four way intersection, one corner is Vin Scelsa’s Idiot’s Delight, where you can find a mix of cultural awareness and disregard for any genre formulas, on another corner is Rodney on The Roq, where you can find what’s next and what’s cool before you hear it anywhere else, the other corner is Dr Demento, where novelty, parody and silliness hangs out, and the final corner is Little Steven’s Underground Garage, where pop culture is celebrated past and present, and somewhere down an alley off a little side street past those four corners is a combination of them all, and that’s Anything Anything”
