Record Store Day is a great event and the purpose of it is to make music fans visit independent record stores and buy music. Labels and Artists have put together some great limited editions for you to enjoy.
As with anything that has a value, shady people try to make a buck, by buying the product and reselling it on ebay at a much higher price. it happened with the ticket industry, and the result became higher overall ticket prices, because artists and promoters determined if someone was going to buy a $20 ticket and sell it for $80. why not just sell it for $80. it’s unfair that someone would make more money on a ticket than the artist/
and with record store day, no one should profit more than the stores. it serves no purpose for the label and artist to press a record for $3, wholesale it for $5 and the store sell it $7, if someone is going to buy it with the sole purpose of selling it for $20. i understand it’s capitalism but really it’s bad karma and the end result is that the prices will go up and the $7 single will become $20 in the stores, and that ultimately will kill record store day which of course hurts the stores we are trying to help.
so be a good human, only buy the record if you are going to enjoy it.
as i like to do on record store day, i visit many stores because each record store is unique and you never know what you will find.
I also like to make it special for the listeners and fans by having something cool for those that show up at the stores i’m at
and this year is no exception. and thanks to some of my friends at record labels and venues, i’ve been able to offer some cool stuff, including raffles at most of the stores where the winner gets to buy some of the most sought after items, which usually sell out in the first 5 minutes, in most of these cases you’ll get a chance to get these items late into the afternoon.
