New Music Releases: Red Hot Lil’ Wayne Crows

Picking up slightly as we ease into a new school year, August 29th sees the return of several familiar faces including Weezy F. Baby, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Counting Crows, and Mike Doughty. Some of these releases seeming to be more of the same (good and bad), but hopefully the Fall will mean a new freshman class of artists releasing solid material in the weeks to come. For now we’ll just have to make due with the tried and true.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – I’m With You

Jake Owen – Barefoot Blue Jean Night

Mike Doughty – Yes and Also Yes

Lenny Kravitz – Black and White America

Edwin McCain – Mercy Bound

Counting Crows – August & Everything After: Live

Lil Wayne – Tha Carter IV

David Guetta – Nothing But the Beat

New Music Releases: The Muppets, The Game, And The Jicks

This week sees a run of light August releases (typical for this time of year) but not without two albums specifically that will bring the nostalgia-joy. Various artists, including Weezer, My Morning Jacket, and OK GO, have all recorded covers of some of the more popular Muppet songs from over the years. I’m convinced they either called it The Green Album because Weezer are on it or Weezer are only on it because it’s called The Green Album. The other album brings together two Alt icons from the 90s, Steven Malkmus (of Pavement) and Beck, who produced Malkmus’ new album Mirror Traffic.

Steven Malkmus and The Jicks – Mirror Traffic

The Game – The R.E.D. Album

Barbra Streisand – What Matters Most

Sunny Sweeney – Concrete

Various Artists – Muppets: The Green Album

New Music Releases: Jeff Bridges, Cowboys, Aliens, And The Throne

A typically slow month for new releases, August can still pull out a few surprises, including the long-in-the-works release from Tron actor Jeff Bridges, the release of the Cowboys and Aliens OST (a few weeks late IMO), and the physical release of the highly anticipated Jay-Z/Kanye love-fest Watch The Throne, the video for the lead-off single “Otis” below showing either two friends having a blast or two major key-holders to a dynasty flaunting their millions in a down economy (you decide).

Jeff Bridges – Self Titled

Guy Clark – Songs and Stories

Cowboys and Aliens – OST

Blue October – Any Man In America

Ana Popovic – Unconditional

Jewel – The Merry Goes ‘Round

Chimaira – Age of Hell

Jonas Bjerre – Songs and Music from the Movie Skyscraper

Jay Z and Kanye West – Watch The Throne
